WordQuest: Spelling Adventure is a phonics-based spelling game for children aged six to eleven, especially those with dyslexia. The first quests are free. This page answers the questions parents ask most, and tells you how to reach us.
Getting started
- WordQuest runs on iPhone and iPad. Every page is narrated, so your child does not need to be able to read the instructions.
- Tap Begin Your Quest. The story teaches one spelling rule at a time, in the order a specialist teacher would use.
- Tap any word in a quest to hear it again. The cat explains anything new.
- The speaker icon at the top of a page repeats what was just said.
Progress
Progress is saved on the iPhone or iPad automatically. Your child can stop at any time and pick up where they left off. The level counter and Spelling Ranks show how far they have come.
Sound
If you hear nothing, check the device's silent switch and volume, then open the settings cog inside the app: narration, sound effects, music and ambient sound can each be turned on or off.
Purchases and restoring
The first four quests are free. The whole adventure (all four lands) is one payment through the App Store, £39.99. It is not a subscription and there is nothing further to pay; it unlocks on every iPhone and iPad signed in with the same Apple Account, and your family can share it through Family Sharing. If you reinstall the app or move to a new device, open the settings cog, tap Grown-ups, then Restore purchase. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Teachers and tutors
The order of teaching follows Dr Michael Thomson's gamebooks WordQuest and The Book of Letters. A guide to the rules covered in each part is at the teacher guide.
